The recent pandemic turned the world upside down, but at the same time, it brought the world closer together. The internet has become a lifeline for many writers.
Check out some of the online writing groups that those of the Canterbury Writers administration team are actively involved with. Some groups are purely online, while others have an in-person component, too.
This book club (sponsored by Black Wolf Editorial Services) is intended for us to discuss books on writing craft and the publishing industry. A new book will be selected every two months, with discussion threads dedicated to each book and a live discussion at the end of the two-month cycle for those who want to take part.
The server is currently free to join—and members of the book club get a say as to what books will be discussed during each cycle. The group is international, but our very own Judy L Mohr (Black Wolf Editorial Services) manages and maintains it.
Pop on over to the Black Wolf Book Club Discord server, and explore some of the amazing books on writing craft.
Come and join our online Discord community for accountability and writing sprints… and occasional chats about writing, editing, and the publishing industry. While the group is connected to the events and activities of those in Christchurch, New Zealand and the greater Canterbury region, this particular online community is open to all from every corner of the world.
With dedicated forum threads for weekly check-ins and a separate sprint-wars channel, be part of a community that will hopefully keep you motivated towards achieving your writing career goals.
And it's FREE to join.
You will need an active Discord account to join this community, but you do not need Discord installed on your computer. The web browser version works well to access all the features of the group. And if you are new to Discord, this community is open and welcoming. Activity is light, so you will have the support you need to learn how to use the Discord platform.
This discussion group on Facebook is for writers based in Canterbury and the wider New Zealand community. Spread news about writer events in your community. Share news with your follow writers. Seek advice for other Kiwi writers.
Let's build a strong writing community together.
(Please note that while this group is currently quiet, we are seeking ways to change that. Hopefully, the FB Overlords won't continually hide our posts.)
This might be a Facebook group, but it's a Facebook group with an in-person element.
Join this group of speculative fiction, science fiction, fantasy, and horror writers in and around Ōtautahi/Christchurch. Share opportunities, successes, ideas, projects, and occasionally meet with others in-person. Writers of any experience level welcome.
In-person meet-ups typically happen on the second Sunday of the month, with details about where they will be shared via their Facebook group. It's strong community that is getting stronger by the month.
(Be advised that this group is not run by Canterbury Writers, but many of our members are also part of this group.)
