The recent pandemic turned the world upside down, but at the same time, it brought the world closer together. The internet has become a lifeline for many writers.
Check out some of the online writing groups that those of the Canterbury Writers administration team are actively involved with. Some groups are purely online, while others have an in-person component, too.
The sole purpose of the Judy L Mohr Book Club is to encourage writers to read some of those writing craft books, discuss them, and decide if those books are worth recommending to the masses. It's free to join, and you are all invited.
For more information about the Book Club, including books information about their current books and the books read in the past, visit their home page.
(This group is hosted and sponsored by our founder.)
Come and join our online Discord community for accountability and writing sprints… and occasional chats about writing, editing, and the publishing industry. While the group is connected to the events and activities of those in Christchurch, New Zealand and the greater Canterbury region, this particular online community is open to all from every corner of the world.
With dedicated forum threads for weekly check-ins and a separate sprint-wars channel, be part of a community that will hopefully keep you motivated towards achieving your writing career goals.
And it's FREE to join.
You will need an active Discord account to join this community, but you do not need Discord installed on your computer. The web browser version works well to access all the features of the group. And if you are new to Discord, this community is open and welcoming. Activity is light, so you will have the support you need to learn how to use the Discord platform.
This might be a Facebook group, but it's a Facebook group with an in-person element.
Join this group of speculative fiction, science fiction, fantasy, and horror writers in and around Ōtautahi/Christchurch. Share opportunities, successes, ideas, projects, and occasionally meet with others in-person. Writers of any experience level welcome.
In-person meet-ups typically happen on the second Sunday of the month, with details about where they will be shared via their Facebook group. It's strong community that is getting stronger by the month.
(Be advised that this group is not run by Canterbury Writers, but many of our members are also part of this group.)
